The ship sailed for Hawaii on 1 October and, wiki.giroudmathias.ch en route, participated in Convoy Exercise 3-71. She spent two days at Pearl Harbor before continuing on to Buckner Bay, Okinawa. Leaving Subic Bay on 28 March 1974, she made stops at Guam and Pearl Harbor before arriving back in San Diego on 18 April and coming into a standdown interval which lasted via 29 July. The ship arrived at San Diego on three March and began preparations for overhaul. She got underway, in tow of Abnaki, for the Long Beach Naval Shipyard on 14 April, and commenced a regular overhaul there the following day. She returned to San Diego on 1 February and started overhaul there on the nineteenth. During this yard work, a fire broke out in a upkeep store and extended her stay in overhaul. She returned to San Diego on the seventh and entered a holiday depart and upkeep standing. Following the ship's rescue, Anchorage resumed her unique schedule which included upkeep in Sasebo, Japan
